|
Psa 31 9-13 |
Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with
sorrow, my soul and my body with grief. My life is consumed by anguish and my
years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones
grow weak. Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors;
I am a dread to my friends-- those who see me on the street flee from me. I am
forgotten by them as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery. For
I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side; they conspire
against me and plot to take my life |
|
|
Psa 84 11 |
For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no
good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. |
|
|
Psa 143 3-4 |
The enemy pursues me, he crushes me to the ground; he makes me dwell in
darkness like those long dead. So my spirit grows faint within me; my heart
within me is dismayed. |
|
|
Prov 17 22 |
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the
bones. |
|
|
Rom 8 28 |
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love
him, who have been called according to his purpose. |
|
|
II Cor 4 17 |
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory
that far outweighs them all. |
|
|
Phi 3 20-21 |
But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from
there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring
everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will
be like his glorious body. |
|
|
Phi 4 13 |
I can do everything through him who gives me strength |
|
|
Jam 1 12 |
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood
the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who
love him. |
|
|
I Pet 3 13-14 |
Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you
should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear what they
fear; do not be frightened. |
|
|
Psa 119 71 |
It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees.
|
|
|
Job 23 10 |
But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth
as gold. |
|
|
I Cor 15 51-53 |
Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be
changed-- in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the
trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be
changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the
mortal with immortality. |
|
|
Psa 55 1-3 |
Listen to my prayer, O God, do not ignore my plea; hear me and answer me.
My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught at the voice of the enemy, at the
stares of the wicked; for they bring down suffering upon me and revile me in
their anger. |
|
|
Psa 50 21-22 |
These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether
like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face. Consider this, you
who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with none to rescue: |
|
|
II Cor 7 9-11 |
yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your
sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so
were not harmed in any way by us. Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to
salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. See what this
godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear
yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern, what
readiness to see justice done. At every point you have proved yourselves to be
innocent in this matter. |
|
|
Heb 12 5-11 |
And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses you as
sons: "My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and do not lose
heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he
punishes everyone he accepts as a son." Endure hardship as discipline; God
is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? If you
are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are
illegitimate children and not true sons. Moreover, we have all had human
fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should
we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! Our fathers disciplined us for
a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that
we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but
painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace
for those who have been trained by it. |
|
|
Psa 56 4 |
In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What
can mortal man do to me? |
|
|
Rom 5 3-5 |
Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that
suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.
And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our
hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. |
|
|
Jam 1 2-4 |
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not
lacking anything. |
|
|
Rom 8 18 |
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the
glory that will be revealed in us. |
|
|
I Pet 1 6-7 |
In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have
had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your
faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by
fire--may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when
Jesus Christ is revealed. |
|
|
2 Cor 4 16-18 |
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet
inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles
are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix
our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is
temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. |
|
|
Lam 3 31-33 |
For men are not cast off by the Lord forever. Though he brings grief, he
will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. For he does not willingly
bring affliction or grief to the children of men. |
|
|
Lam 4 8-11 |
But now they are blacker than soot; they are not recognized in the
streets. Their skin has shriveled on their bones; it has become as dry as a
stick. Those killed by the sword are better off than those who die of famine;
racked with hunger, they waste away for lack of food from the field. With their
own hands compassionate women have cooked their own children, who became their
food when my people were destroyed. The LORD has given full vent to his wrath;
he has poured out his fierce anger. He kindled a fire in Zion that consumed her
foundations. |
|
|
Lam 5 10-17 |
Our skin is hot as an oven, feverish from hunger. Women have been ravished
in Zion, and virgins in the towns of Judah. Princes have been hung up by their
hands; elders are shown no respect. Young men toil at the millstones; boys
stagger under loads of wood. The elders are gone from the city gate; the young
men have stopped their music. Joy is gone from our hearts; our dancing has
turned to mourning. The crown has fallen from our head. Woe to us, for we have
sinned! Because of this our hearts are faint, because of these things our eyes
grow dim |
|
|
Psa 145 14 |
The LORD upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.
|
|
|
Heb 10 32-35 |
Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you
stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering. Sometimes you
were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side
by side with those who were so treated. You sympathized with those in prison
and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that
you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. So do not throw away your
confidence; it will be richly rewarded. |
|
|
II The 1 3-10 |
We ought always to thank God for you, brothers, and rightly so, because
your faith is growing more and more, and the love every one of you has for each
other is increasing. Therefore, among God's churches we boast about your
perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring. All
this is evidence that God's judgment is right, and as a result you will be
counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. God is just:
He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who
are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is
revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. He will punish
those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They
will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of
the Lord and from the majesty of his power on the day he comes to be glorified
in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed.
This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you. |
|
|
I Cor 1 27-31 |
But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose
the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of
this world and the despised things--and the things that are not--to nullify the
things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that
you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God--that is, our
righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: "Let
him who boasts boast in the Lord." |
|
|
I Cor 2 9 |
However, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind
has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him" [2] |
|
|
I Cor 11 27-32 |
Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an
unworthy manner will be guilty sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.
A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the
cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord
eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many among you are weak and
sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. But if we judged ourselves, we
would not come under judgment. When we are judged by the Lord, we are being
disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world. |
|
|
Eph 1 11-12 |
In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan
of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in
order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of
his glory |
|
|
Mat 25:35-46 |
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you
gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed
clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison
and you came to visit me.' "Then the righteous will answer him, `Lord,
when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to
drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and
clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
"The King will reply, `I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of
the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' "Then he will say to
those on his left, `Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire
prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing
to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and
you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was
sick and In prison and you did not look after me.' "They also will answer,
`Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes
or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' "He will reply, `I tell you
the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not
do for me.' "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the
righteous to eternal life." |

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. |
